The Chicken Lays An Egg

In 1979, Jim's son, Scott, debuted as "Chicken Little" at a Nuggets game. For weeks before the big day, Jim carried an egg around at the Nuggets games. Jim used to lovingly pat the egg, tap on it, and he really worked people up. The night of Chicken Little's hatching had been set-up to cause great suspense. Scott was placed inside the egg and Jim came staggering out with the egg. Then things did not go according to plan. Jim ended up dropping the egg. Scott was yelling, "Dad, what is going on?" "DAD!!!" What the crowd did not know was that Scott was suffocating inside the egg and it was taking much longer than they had rehearsed. Jim finally split the egg open and Chicken Little was hatched. Out jumped Scott and then he started to hit his dad with a padded bat. Among Chicken Little's first antics was to harass Joe Luby (owner of Luby Chevrolet). The KIMN Chicken and Chicken Little wowed the crowd with their 2 man acrobatics. And a chicken off the old block was hatched!

The KIMN Chicken and Chicken Little did many appearances together and they would also work separately. Sheldon Altman (engineer) would chaperone Chicken Little for his appearances without Dad. Over the years, the two chickens would go to no ends to entertain the KIMN listeners. Whether it was just a standard live remote broadcast at one of the station's advertisers, skiing, or doing crowd control for the Parade of Lights on their KIMN motorbikes, the pair were always a hit with everyone.

Scott was Chicken Little from 1979 to 1987 (from 8 years old until his retirement at age 16).
