Jim had already been informed that his role was going to be reduced to part time when the news of the end came. He was just as shocked as everyone else by the news that KIMN was going to be no more. The very last day was emotional for everyone, including Jim. In the final moments, Paxton Mills said, "Come on, Chicken Man, take your head off - it's OVER!" So Jim took his head off in public for the first time. Jim addressed the crowd, " You know what? I LOVE YOU!" "You know what? I KNOW YOU LOVE ME!" Jim and Randy Jay spent about 5 minutes hugging and crying at the end of the final broadcast. And the thoughts kept resounding by all the KIMN people, "It didn't have to end!" "It didn't have to end like this". And so the era where an AM station was consistently in the Top 10 in a major market with a rock/adult contemporary format and a dominant news force came to an end. The magic was over. No more Denver Tiger. No more of the Best Show in Denver. The old KIMN may be gone, but it will never be forgotten. |
